Sometimes when an authoritative rent-a-cop yells at you, he is just trying to emphasize his authority and wants you to back down. Keeping calm and talking to them in a nice manner is the best way to gain favors. They do not want opposition, and since you are not a bad guy, they might consider giving you your time to shoot if you prove that you are incapable of any form of harm. Agitating them and talking back may just put you in a harder situation, so be nice. It can work miracles, but sometimes you need to assert your individuality too.
